A Much Needed Trip to the Coast... MORE TO COME...

I am going nuts on this schedule, and feeling a wee bit angst-ridden at just about everyone and everything, so I thought I had better get a change of scenery and get my head on right!

Oh - as I write this, it reminds me of the time, when I lived in North Hollywood, that it felt like it had rained for days and days, and I just could not stand it any longer, so I packed my car, and headed east... I remember saying to myself, "if I have to drive to Texas, I will go as far as I need to in order to find sunshine!"

Lucky for me, I only had to drive to Palm Springs!  I was supposed to have company, but they didn't make it, so I went on alone...  This was a pre-cursor to my cross-country trip so I must have gained some confidence being alone on my own on the road.

Wow - things have not changed much for me, have they?  Some 32 or 34 years later.  Hmmm.

Anyway, I had the best time in Palm Springs... got a hotel, laid out in the sun, met up with some people at a club, snuck into the outdoor hot tub at the hotel after hours... just really enjoyed myself.

Well, I had the best time this past weekend in Newport, Oregon as well.

First I spent Thursday morning with MP. and we watched some videos and made oil pulling chews and homemade deodorant since I am just about out.  She made some lunch for me and we watched a couple episodes of Bobby Flay's Food Network Throwdown.  Then I napped, and met Melanie at the church and helped decorate for Sunday's Tailgate Pot Luck.

When she left, I went next door to Murphy's.  I had had bulgogi leftovers a couple times throughout the week, and was feeling like I was kinda over Korean food...  I just wanted an All American Burger,,, and I did!

Oh yeah!  That is just what I was talking about!

Was checking my phone, and my camera wanted to take this pic as well...

Yes, that is water :)

After that, I went to one of my favorite quiet neighborhoods and spent about 12 hours sleeping and not sleeping but feeling fairly rested for the drive over to the coast.

So beautiful when I got there!

Got to love Oregonians!  No matter what the weather, they are usually still out on the beach.  It was sunny, but the breeze was a little cold as it was still morning.

Art at the parking lot overlooking the beach...  steam punk genre...

I called up J., who used to go to my Tuesday morning Bible study but moved over to Newport in the fall.  Just wanted to tell her we were thinking of her and kept her in prayer.  We met at the Newport Cafe on Hwy 101 at 6th, and had a delightful visit.  She said they had the best clam chowder, even over Mo's, and she ordered bowls for us... she was right, it was delicious!

I followed her up the hill to her son's house where she is currently living, and met her son and daughter-in-law.  I was getting the feeling that this might not be a bad place to spend the summer.  The gal at the cafe said April was a perfect time to look for work because that was when everyone was hiring for summer.  Might be an option.  Would probably stay in the van but the weather shouldn't get so hot.

After our visit, I went and parked at Nye Beach.  I walked out, flew my kite...

came back to walk up and down the block of little stores there...

Then I went into the Newport Visual Arts Center and looked at the few displays.  I liked this guy's linoleum prints...  Patrick Simon... check him out...

What I like best is the vintage technique of printing, with a modern view...  like this one...
