I started calling family and friends and the next day we went to the funeral home and the church together. Thank goodness most of this had been already taken care of by my parents, not only the plan, but the cost as well. We only had to fill out some paperwork, and make a few decisions like how many death certificates did we need, and what to have engraved on her urn. She had already typed out a general history for each of them, of which I got a copy and used to write her announcement.
My folks had already decided that they would be cremated and placed in the column-barium at their church. Since the time my mom showed me the place, an awning had been erected and there were benches too. I liked the idea that she was still in the middle of life... perhaps kids might run by playing tag, or people walking past to the fellowship hall talking about the service. Although I know that she isn't really there, it is a nice place.
