About Eating Out Alone...

Sitting by yourself in a public eating arena is most likely one of the most difficult things to do.  Basically, you just don't know what to do with yourself while you are waiting to order, waiting for the meal, and in between bites.  Without someone to talk with, there seems to be a lot of dead air space around you.  Not to mention that you are SURE everyone is looking at you, speculating how crazy you are for coming and sitting down by yourself.

In the old days, I would bring a book with me.  This was a fairly good distraction.  Nowadays, having my Smart phone with me is a great distraction and I can even be carrying on a conversation with someone somewhere by text.  But still, when you can go into a nice restaurant by yourself and enjoy a good meal, you get 10 Gold Stars in my book!

Beside McDonald's, I did this in Depoe Bay, south of Lincoln City, eating at Gracie's Sea Hag, that I had been directed to by a lady in a store in Lincoln City I had talked to.  I had fish and chips and it was very yummy!  :)

Memory story for my boys:  My first experience with this was when I drove my boyfriend's boat across the desert to him.  I actually went with another friend, and that friend flew home on an air flight.  I was waiting for my boyfriend to show up.  It was hot and it had been a long drive, so I got the brilliant idea to change into my bathing suit, walk through a side entrance and take a swim in a motel pool.  The plan worked and I enjoyed the refreshing swim.  Afterwards, I changed in the car again, and went across the street to eat.  I felt so brazen with this newly found boldness that I sat at the counter of this little coffee shop and had a sandwich or something and a lemonade.  I think this experience may have been the beginning of something.... hmmmm.

:)
