Birdie baths are fine for what they are good for, but there is nothing so enjoyable as a nice, hot shower!! Practically Heaven on earth! :)
When I had prepared for Y2K and the possibility of not have running water, I knew that a shower was going to be one of the things I would miss the most. I did manage to rig up a 3 gallon flower watering bucket with a spout in the shower that worked extremely well when we had a "Y2K Trial Weekend." Heated the water on our wood stove and tipped it when wanted to get wet.
In Florence I found two Laundromats that also had showers. I chose the Green Lightning Laundry facility and for $3.50 had a really hot shower for 8 minutes in a very clean, safe, environment. Hadn't washed my hair since Corvallis so it was a very welcome indulgence.
Just like electricity, we in mainstream America take these things so much for granted, but there are plenty of people around the world, and even here in the States that for one reason or another, don't have this experience readily available to them. It is something to think about.
I would rate the necessities: clean drinking water, food, a safe environment to rest in, and hot running water for hygiene and downright "just feeling goodness!"
Loving my life! and all that I experiencing and learning!
:)
